In all honesty, good cloth. But good cloth is so hard to find, and I'd rather have leather than bad cloth.

Mmmmm....not sure how I feel about this.
I mean, like Blue Jeans. Worn. And then put those seats in a 1970 Mustang with a "Sheetmetal-colored" body. Leather wrapped steering wheel and a polished pine dashboard cover.... is that crazy?
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:33 |

Cloth every time!
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:34 |

I still see cloth

Whale Penis Leather

Leather is better. All day everyday.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:36 |

What's an example of good cloth? I personally like old 70's Caddy and Lincoln cloth interiors, but I haven't found any modern ones that I like.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:36 |
|
it really wasn't like it used to be with cloth, where often a fine velour was the upsell over leather.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:36 |
|
like the above. Those are like recliner comfortable.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:36 |

Ah yes. I'd love some cloth hurricanes for my E36
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:36 |

In order:
Alcantara/Suede/whatever this is
Cloth:
Everything else.

um, because you want to say you sit on whale penis? haha sorry
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:37 |

Cloth, or suede/alcantara. I like to stick to my seats.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:37 |
|
None of the above- Alcantara; the seat material of the Gods.
But I also really like leather.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:37 |
|
I love my IS300's seats. They're half (fake) suede, half leather. Sporty, yet classy.
(stock photo, mine is manual)

Some Italian cars have this Alcantara (or Alcantara-like) stuff (in different colors) I just love.
However, I have a simpler, but similar material on the seats of my car, and keeping it in good shape is pretty hard.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:38 |
|
Those seats are gone. Now it's hard plastic one piece buckets like these.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:38 |

I loved the Alcantara in my V70R. So nice, easy to clean, low maintenance. Great stuff
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:40 |
|
I don't know for modern cars.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:40 |
|
1.) genuine leather
2.) velour
3.) anything else.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:40 |
|
Plus you can draw on it with your fingers, but yeah, it's cool for other reasons too. :P
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:41 |
|
I've always wanted Suede seats, and a suede wheel.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:43 |
|
those aren't alcantara? I had suede in my biturbo and it was awful to keep clean
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:43 |

Good cloth with seat heaters.
Good vinyl with seat heaters.
Good leather with seat heaters.
In that order.

I like cloth seats because they are a million times better than the vinyl I grew up with. But Leather... oh Leather. My problem with leather is how it ages, and how hot it gets in the summer. Otherwise I like leather a lot. My favorite is pleather, or fake leather, or whatever you want to call it. It's tougher than leather (HT RunDMC), has little holes in it so it breathes and you aren't a sweat pile if you sit on it wearing shorts, and it's a lot more comfortable than vinyl.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:47 |

Leather.
Leather
Leather
Leather
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:48 |

Now that you ask I don't know how to call the material in my car seats. I do like Alcantara and leather though.
What is it?
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:49 |

likely vinyl and cloth, MAYBE leather and cloth but unlikely

![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:50 |

Cloth. I don't like leather, it's always something you don't want it to be - hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
My Milan:
The Montego has Vinyl seats and that's perfect for that time period. Modern though? I want cloth.
My Montego:

Yeah, but that doesn't feel like cloth, it has hole n'such.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:53 |
|
it is just a different kind of cloth I think. What model is it, c4?
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:54 |
|
The C5, leather and cloth apparently. But weird cloth.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 12:59 |

VELOUR!
![]() 11/14/2014 at 13:02 |

Leather for sure. With seat heaters.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 13:05 |

It's true luxury. Ask DARTZ what they use in the Prombron
![]() 11/14/2014 at 13:05 |
|
oh I sure do know what they use. I would sit on whale penis too to be driving one of those for a day. Just to do it
![]() 11/14/2014 at 13:06 |

Cloth over anything else.
Wait, I lied, cloth with heaters over anything else.

All of the above? I really don't have any problems any of them. I'll generally take whatever is base.
Although I am considering taking the seats out of the S4 and replacing them with racing seats. Perhaps I can change those into recliners and the back seat into a sofa.

Leather. It feels good, it looks good, it resists the elements very well, it does not trap odors and it's very easy to keep clean.
I like alcantara too, but prefer it in combination with leather.
I hate vinyl, and I dislike most cloth interiors.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 13:32 |
|
Cloth, followed by good leather. followed about three miles later by cheap leather & vinyl(which tend to be indistinguishable).
![]() 11/14/2014 at 13:50 |
|
The best interior is made of the inside of the outer skin.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 14:02 |
|
On that topic, the alcantara on my 850R is filthy and worn (although still wonderfully comfortable. Any advice on how to clean it?
![]() 11/14/2014 at 14:04 |
|
the wear thing I cant help you with, but I used the turtle wax/formula 2001 with oxy clean on mine and it took out anything my daughters could spill on it. The 850 had the alcantara portions reversed from where they should be IMHO
![]() 11/14/2014 at 14:10 |
|
Awesome, thanks!
I'd agree that they got it backwards, but on the other hand, they're some of the most amazingly comfortable and supportive car seats I've ever experienced, so I can't begrudge them that too much.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 14:11 |
|
oh yeah I loved all of my 850 seats, especially the R!

Just looking at this makes my ass sweaty.

For the most part, leatherette. Seats in my 335xi are leatherette. Looks close enough to leather with the benefit of being ridiculously easy to maintain. No need to condition, moisturize, etc. Just wipe it off once it a while. Cloth is nice if it's higher-end stuff although it's more prone to looking bad if stuff gets spilled/dropped on it.
Although I really love the way that the leather seats, doors and console feel in my 1990 M5.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 18:11 |

The 850R and 850 T5-R had the alcantara in opposite areas, the R's have alcantara centers while the T5-R's have alcantara bolsters, *70 cars (SE's, R's and GT-pack equipped C70's) all have alcantara centers.
If you get a chance, try the seats in a C70, they make the 850's feel like they're from a 92' Buick as far as the bolstering and support goes. The *70 R's got extra bolstering over the standard 850/*70 seats, and the C70 got extra bolstering beyond that.

Leather. There is a reason it is the choice in premium cars.
![]() 11/14/2014 at 22:05 |
|
Ideally, high grade vinyl, but you can't really get it in new cars for the most part.
So, I lean toward leather, because most of the cloth they put in modern cars feels pretty cheap.
![]() 11/15/2014 at 11:16 |
|
You mean premium leather, not the "leather" as in mainstream cars.
![]() 11/15/2014 at 14:34 |

Leather all the way. Even to me, bad leather is better than good cloth.
![]() 11/15/2014 at 15:44 |

Alcantara and leather!
![]() 11/15/2014 at 20:07 |

I've had cars with leather, cloth, MB-Tex and vinyl. My current car has heated cloth seats, but if I had my choice, I'd get the heated and cooled leather seats my buddies Lincoln is equipped with and put them in my Elantra.
![]() 11/15/2014 at 20:24 |
|
Yeah, agree. Good leather is fabulous, bad leather is like a bar stool.
